Stanford Offers Free Online Courses to Russians

Stanford University recently began a series of political science courses open to Russian universities through CD-ROMs and online learning. The series was established to offer Russian students a glimpse of political science as experienced by U.S. students.

Though Stanford offers the courses free-of-charge, Russian universities may soon charge for the materials and services. Nearly 60 students participated in the initial course, and both Stanford and Russian educators hope enrollment grows in coming years. The initiative was created to bolster Russia’s social sciences, which academics believe have suffered in the 10 years since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
