Since the creation of the Science without Borders (SWB) program in 2011, the Brazilian government and private sector have dedicated funding towards scientific research projects abroad, with the goal of providing 1000,000 scholarships to be met this September. In light of the program’s success, Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff recently announced that its second phase will begin in 2015, with another 100,000 scholarships to be awarded. It is therefore becoming increasingly more crucial that admissions professionals are knowledgeable about this emerging market and well equipped to make the best admissions decisions for their institutions. In this session, regional expert Carlos Monroy will: highlight key facts about the SWB program, review student mobility trends and provide an overview of the Brazilian education system and commonly issued academic credentials. There will be ample time for Q & A and all registrants will receive a copy of the presentation.

Carlos Monroy has been evaluating international academic credentials at World Education Services since 2006. He has previously presented his research at various national and international conferences including the Association of International Educators: NAFSA, the European Association for International Education (EAIE) and the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration: CONAHEC. Carlos earned his master’s degree in international relations from City University of New York.
