2015 set a new and troubling record: For the first time ever, an estimated 60 million people were displaced from their homes by war, conflict, and persecution. At the same time, oil prices crashed to a 12-year low, and oil-dependent nations around the globe saw their economies come to a halt. In each case, tertiary students have suffered greatly, either due to lack of documentation, or to the sudden loss of financial backing that has helped to finance their studies. This issue of World Education News & Reviews examines the impact of these crises on students and their mobility, and provides research-based recommendations for institutions seeking to understand and aid those coming from some of the most tumultuous regions in the world.
