The French Development Agency (AFD) has agreed to provide a $30 million dollar grant to 39 Kenyan universities, in a bid to improve access and quality in the higher education sector.
Times Higher Education (THE) released a pilot ranking of the top ten universities in Latin America. The rankings rely on the same performance indicators as those used to rank universities worldwide.
In the wake of July’s coup attempt, the Turkish government demanded the resignation of 1,500 university deans. The attempt to identify political opponents and quash dissent has reportedly affected more than 50,000 people, many of them students, teachers, and academics.
This summer a few Chinese universities began issuing their own degrees – a task that has, until now, been centrally administered only by the Chinese Ministry of Education. By 2017, all universities will follow suit. Is the shift a harbinger of additional reforms?
